It’s a basic truth, everyone could use some support in their life. Here in this picture we have two humanoid dolls leaning against each other, sewed together at the arm. Yet, the picture is still in shades of grey with marginal black definition, as if to say “We are more than sewed together, we are falling apart.” One must admit relationships are similarly complicated.
Taking from the dolls example, would it be truthful to then say that people are only together as much as they’re pulled apart? Each person could be gripping onto the value of their relationships by the threads that string the relationship together. When one last string is left, they may literally be “hanging on by a thread”, judging if it’d be better to let that last thread go or reappear the damages done. When repaired, it’d only be logical to sew the dolls together better, tighter, as if it strengthens their relationship itself. The relationship’s strength is then defined by the determination of the pair to stay functionally together.
Yet, what if the pair isn’t functional? Since each doll in the picture is slumping down, one could hardly say they are providing much support for each other. If one doll were to pull away from the other, the threads would surely tear apart, leaving each with pin-hole wounds. Just like in real life, the dolls would walk-or rather be held away from each other with their history together altering the fabric of their single being. Each doll may then sit on its own shelf and consider if the pinholes left represent a wondrous now missing connection, or a burdening body finally severed. Even without a present relationship, one is affected by their past ones.
Together, or apart, the many layers of a bond still stand. Like overlapping fabric at the start of a sewing project, there’s no telling how the end result of a relationship will turn out. All phases of a relationship affect the ultimate existence of the both participants.
